Sensics Wins International Grant to Fund Head-Mounted Display Innovation
BIRD Foundation Award Will Support Sensics R&D Partnership with an Israeli Partner
Baltimore, MD – Oct 14th, 2008 – Sensics, Inc., the leading provider of panoramic, high-resolution head-mounted displays, today announced that it has received a grant from the Bi-national Industrial Research and Development (BIRD) Foundation to develop an innovative, head-mounted display with an Israeli partner. The grant will bring together resources from Israel's research and development community with Sensics’ patented technology and ability to successfully commercialize and market high-performance personal display solutions worldwide.
The BIRD Foundation was established by the U.S. and Israeli governments in 1977 to generate mutually beneficial cooperation between the private sectors of the U.S. and Israeli high tech industries. BIRD provides matchmaking services between U.S. and Israeli companies and funding up to $1 million for a joint R&D project that will lead to commercialization costs. Each year, BIRD supports approximately 25 projects with approximately $20 million of funding.
"At Sensics, we're constantly striving to push the technology envelope and provide our customers with panoramic, lightweight, high-performance virtual reality displays. We're happy to take advantage of the opportunity to collaborate with a pioneer in the high tech field to develop a next generation solution," said Yuval Boger, CEO of Sensics. "The BIRD grant will give Sensics the opportunity to work with another technology company halfway around the world, taking full advantage of each firm's intellectual property, R&D, manufacturing, and marketing capabilities."
The joint initiative will create a new lightweight head-mounted display that delivers high-performance (panoramic field of view, high resolution) and substantial ease of integration and ease of use. The goal will be to make head-mounted displays easier to own, easier to integrate and easier to use.
"In today's globally competitive marketplace, we celebrate Sensics’ recognition as one of Maryland’s most innovative technology firms with whom an Israeli company can partner," said Maryland Governor Martin O’Malley. "With the support of this prestigious BIRD grant, we bring two great technology centers together -- Israel and Maryland -- to deliver new products to drive the 21st century economy."
Governor O’Malley just returned from a trade mission to Israel earlier this summer. He announced three Israeli companies coming to the state including BioLineRX, ClassifEye and Teva Pharmaceuticals through its purchase of Maryland-based CoGenesys, now called Teva BioPharmaceuticals USA.
"Our industry is constantly innovating towards making virtual reality a reality, and Israel is at the forefront for new and leading edge developments," said Boger. "Sensics’ work with through the BIRD grant illustrates our dedication to go to great lengths to create leading-edge products that deliver compelling experiences and substantial benefits to our customers."
