Sensics - Panoramic Head-Mounted Displays

Sensics offers a high-performance augmented reality solution that combines high-quality video feeds with computer generated imagery, with no impact on graphics performance or CPU load. The solution supports stereoscopic video which makes it perfect for HMD based applications such as:

  • Training and simulation: allowing integrating live-video images (e.g. user’s hands, inside-the-vehicle images) with computer-generated out-the-window scenery.
  • Vision and balance research: where users can see their hands and feet yet be exposed to a virtual world otherwise.
  • Augmented reality: allowing the addition of virtual objects or people on top of live video imagery.

The Sensics solution is based on high-performance cards that co-reside in the image generating PC. These cards integrated live video with computer-generated graphics and provide dual-port output compatible with all Sensics displays. There is no impact on CPU or GPU performance when using the Sensics augmented reality solution.

The picture on the top left shows a sample configuration with a high-speed, high-resolution USB cameras mounted inside on the Sensics xSight. Many additional options are available to match desired quality, size and camera placement.

The picture on the top right shows a sample configuration with a high-quality 'lipstick' camera mounted on the Sensics piSight. Many additional options are available to match desired quality, size and camera placement.

A flexible configuration utility allows selecting the precise method of combining live video with computer graphics including range of key colors, video on graphics or graphics on video, image resizing and positioning to achieve precise alignment. Once configured, parameters can be saved in non-volatile memory for automatic and instant power-up configuration.

The solution accepts high-quality video (S-video or composite) from a variety of color or black & white video sources including cameras, DVD players, surveillance systems and more. If using cameras, Sensics can deliver a camera that matches the field of view of the HMD as well as meets size and weight requirements. The result is a high-quality, high-performance augmented reality solution.
